ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW

Tuesday, April 29, 2008
By Aaron Keker

Augustana who brought us hit songs like “Boston” and “Stars and Boulevards” released their second album titled Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt on Epic Records on April 29, 2008.

The album begins with the soon to be hit song “Hey Now” and ends with “Where Love Went Wrong.”

Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt has a variety of different sounds from the upbeat tempos, to the lower piano tempos and finally the dropped down acoustic tempo.

For the upbeat listener, you will want to listen to songs like their current smash hit “Sweet and Low,” “Either Way, I’ll Break Your Heart Someday” and “Dust.”

For the piano enthusiasts who enjoyed “Boston,” you will want to listen to “Twenty Years,” “Fire” and “Where Love Went Wrong.”

Finally, if you are into music that is dropped down to its acoustic roots, you will want to listen to “Rest, Shame, Love” and “Reasons.”

In other words, Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt is a well-rounded album that contains a wide range of tempos for every listener and definitely is an album that you should consider investing in. Only time will tell but it just might be more successful than their debut album All the Stars and Boulevards.

If you prefer to purchase the album digitally, make sure you purchase the album at iTunes, Napster or Rhapsody. In fact, if you pre-ordered the deluxe edition at iTunes for $11.99 you received an awesome deal. Not only did you receive the ten songs released on the album but also you received bonus tracks of “I’ll Stay,” “Sweet and Low” (Acoustic Version), “Reasons” and music videos of “Sweet and Low” and “Hey Now” (Acoustic Version).

The acoustic versions of “Sweet and Low” and “Hey Now” sound just as good as the original upbeat tempo versions. With that being said, I would go one step further and say they sound even better. Artistically, there is just something about dropping the songs down acoustically that makes the songs even more enjoyable.

For those of you who watched Augustana’s performance last year, you probably already are familiar with some of the songs that they incorporated into their live performance. So if you enjoyed them back then, make sure you purchase Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt at iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody or any store that sells their music. If you enjoy their debut album All the Stars and Boulevards, you will definitely enjoy Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt.

Finally, Augustana is performing at the Metro on May 13th in Chicago and I am looking forward to providing future coverage for them that day. For those individuals who want to watch a live performance by Augustana, make sure you visit their web site at www.augustanamusic.com or their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/augustana for tour information.
