ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW

Friday, November 14, 2008
By Aaron Keker

The band that has transformed songs like, “Everyday I Love You Less and Less,” “I Predict a Riot,” “Modern Way,” “Na Na Na Na Naa,” “Oh My God,” “Ruby,” “The Angry Mob” and “Everything is Average Nowadays” into mainstream America has accomplished it once again.

Kaiser Chiefs released Off With Their Heads on October 28, 2008 on Motown Records.

Back on November 13th, I heard firsthand live versions of “Spanish Metal,” “Never Miss a Beat,” “You Want History,” “Can’t Say What I Mean,” “Good Days Bad Days” and “Half the Truth.” I have to say that I really enjoyed them. In fact, I was anxious to listen to the album versions of these songs.

The live versions of “Never Miss a Beat,” “You Want History” and “Half the Truth” differed from the album versions because they were missing either the backing or guest vocals of Lily Allen, Anne-Marie Chirema, Lou Hayter, Sarah Jones and Sway.

“Never Miss a Beat” included backing vocals of Lily Allen, Anne-Marie Chirema, Lou Hayter and Sarah Jones. “You Want History” included backing vocals of Anne-Marie Chirema, Lou Hayter and Sarah Jones. “Always Happens Like That” included guest vocals by Lily Allen. “Half the Truth” included guest vocals by Sway.

The different backing and guest vocals are really the only significant change off the album. Kaiser Chiefs do not need any backing and guest vocals because they have a good vocalist in Ricky Wilson but it is a pleasant change.

Not only were there backing and guest vocalists, but Kaiser Chiefs managed to mix strings with their up-tempo beat on “Like it too Much.” I would not be surprised if this song became one of their popular hits from Off With Their Heads.

Finally, the band from Leeds with their up-beat tempos has managed once again to release another solid album. If you enjoy their previous up-tempo albums like Employment and Yours Truly, Angry Mob then you should definitely invest in Off With Their Heads. Also for those iTunes video enthusiasts, “Never Miss a Beat” is currently available. If you are unfamiliar with Kaiser Chiefs, but like up-tempo beats or up-tempo beats mixed with strings then it is never too late to jump on the angry mob bandwagon. Why not give the perfect stocking stuffers by stuffing them with Kaiser Chiefs’ music? You just might find yourself singing along to “Never Miss a Beat,” “Good Days Bad Days,” “Half the Truth” and “Always Happens Like That.” Below is the song list for Off With Their Heads.
