ALWAYS ACOUSTIC® ALBUM REVIEW

Monday, November 2, 2009
By Aaron Keker

The vocal harmonies of Jon Bon Jovi, the electrified sound of Richie Sambora and the drum smashing of Tico Torres will have every Bon Jovi fan waiting impatiently for The Circle World Tour.

Wine experts say vintage port wine gets better with age and should not be consumed for at least ten years. It’s even better at twenty-five years. If wine gets better with age, what about Bon Jovi?

The answer is “Absolutely!” The Circle is a very powerful lyrical album and is one of my favorite Bon Jovi albums of all time. I believe every song on the album has the potential of becoming a hit; however I have chosen what I believe to be the “lucky seven.”

Bon Jovi may never surpass the legendary Multi-Diamond award of Slippery When Wet but should that really matter?

Bon Jovi has sold more than 120 million albums. Approximately 24% of those units sold are from the album Slippery When Wet. Meaning 76% are from their other albums.

Bon Jovi not only enjoys playing acoustically but they are very passionate about the Nashville musical scene. Jon has even remarked, “So we [Richie and I] went down to Nashville. And I’d been going there a lot for twenty years. Sometimes just as an exercise.” So, I am not surprised that Bon Jovi would challenge their music artistically by forming, what I call a circle. The circle commenced with the up tempo rock sound of Bon Jovi, then continued in a circular motion with the acoustic and Nashville sound of This Left Feels Right and Lost Highway. And finally, completing a full circle with the release of The Circle on November 10, 2009.

For those Bon Jovi fans that enjoyed the banjo and the country feel of Lost Highway, you will be disappointed. Instead, Bon Jovi reverted back to what made them universal rock stars and that is their electrified rock sound of guitarist Richie Sambora with the drum smashing of Tico Torres.

The Circle once again includes the usual Bon Jovi cast of characters. The album is produced by John Shanks, who worked with Bon Jovi on Have a Nice Day and Lost Highway, and Desmond Child provided additional songwriting expertise.

Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora co-wrote with Desmond Child on “Happy Now” and “Learn to Love.” Then Jon and Richie co-wrote with Desmond Child and John Shanks on “Brokenpromiseland.” Add Billy Falcon’s co-writing into the equation with Jon and Richie on “When We Were Beautiful,” “Superman Tonight” and “Love’s the Only Rule.” Finally, toss in one last song written by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, which is “We Weren’t Born to Follow” and you have your “lucky seven.”

The vocal harmonies of Jon Bon Jovi, the electrified sound of Richie Sambora and the drum smashing of Tico Torres will have every Bon Jovi fan waiting impatiently for The Circle World Tour. Who knows, when the first concert kicks off on February 19th in Seattle, The Circle may already have been crowned platinum? The Circle contains several very powerful lyrical lines that are not only memorable, but something to consider living your life by. The first is “You got to stand up for what you believe.” The second is “You’ve got to learn to love the world you’re living in.” Don’t be left out of The Circle. Pre-order the album on Amazon or visit your local music retailer on November 10, 2009. The album is unforgettable! Below is the song list for The Circle.

The Circle:

1. “We Weren’t Born to Follow”
2. “When We Were Beautiful”
