ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW

Saturday, May 2, 2009
By Aaron Keker

As they were sworn into the courtroom, they read the line “We swear to tell the truth And Nothing but the Truth.”

As they were sworn into the courtroom, they read the line “We swear to tell the truth And Nothing but the Truth.”

A vision with a catchy album title was born.

fORMER who is following in the footsteps of John Vesely and Secondhand Serenade by building their fan base on MySpace, have released their debut album And Nothing but the Truth on iTunes, CD Baby and DigStation back on October 21, 2008.

For some time now, I have listened to fORMER’s music and I have enjoyed the pop cult hits of “Lies” and “Make it Out.”

As I listened to “Lies” and “Make it Out,” there was something catchy about them; that I thought And Nothing but the Truth could have the potential to make it on the Billboard Top 200.

Although I am not aware of the album making it up on the Billboard Top 200, “Lies” was nominated and took home the award for Best Song on WBUZ 102.9’s Local Rock Awards.

fORMER even won for Best Alternative Band on WBUZ 102.9’s Annual Listener’s Choice Awards.

According to fORMER’s MySpace page, vocalist Denny Smith was contemplating leaving the band. Although Denny Smith has good vocals and probably could start another successful rock band, it would be unfortunate because of the earlier successes of fORMER.

fORMER has supported platinum artists Staind, Breaking Benjamin and Night Ranger. I am sure that not many bands get this type of opportunity, so Denny Smith and his band mates must be doing something correctly.

Nevertheless, if you like catchy pop cult hits like “Lies” and “Make it Out” then And Nothing but the Truth is an album that you should consider purchasing. Again the album is available on iTunes, CD Baby and DigStation. If you purchase the physical album now, who knows, the album may become a collector’s item if fORMER eventually dissolves and Denny Smith hits it big either as a solo artist or with his next band? In other words, enjoy fORMER while you can.

And Nothing but the Truth:

1. “Lies”
2. “In the Gray”
3. “I’ll Sleep”
4. “Make it Out”
5. “Nobody Knows You”
6. “Crave”
7. “Never Come Down”
8. “Pretty Little Scar”
9. “Let You Let Me Down”
10. “Needles & Pins”
11. “Burn Out”
12. “Downed Again”
13. “Please”
