ALWAYS ACOUSTIC® ALBUM REVIEW

Thursday, October 28, 2010
By Aaron Keker

Bon Jovi is the modern day Rumpelstiltskin, but instead of turning straw into gold, Bon Jovi’s albums are metamorphosed into Gold, Platinum and Diamond.

Bon Jovi has rocked the universe for over twenty-five years now!

I remember hearing “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer” on the radio for the first time, and shortly thereafter I invested my hard earned money on the vinyl Slippery When Wet.

Slippery When Wet is Bon Jovi’s most popular album and was certified Diamond on October 21, 1993 by the RIAA.

So it should be no surprise that “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Wanted Dead or Alive” are the first five songs on Bon Jovi Greatest Hits and Bon Jovi Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection, Disc 1. The album is available for presale on BonJovi.com and any other online music retailers.

Bon Jovi is the modern day Rumpelstiltskin, but instead of turning straw into gold, Bon Jovi’s albums are metamorphosed into Gold, Platinum and Diamond. This is an extraordinary accomplishment for any artist or band, especially in the modern age of digital music.

Bon Jovi Greatest Hits and Bon Jovi Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection grapples the listener into a brief history of Bon Jovi’s most popular songs like, “It’s My Life,” “Have a Nice Day,” “We Weren’t Born to Follow,” “I’ll Be There for You,” “Always” and “Runaway.” It includes two new songs in “What Do You Got?” and “No Apologies.”

Bon Jovi Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection includes an additional disc that includes hits like “Lost Highway,” “Bed of Roses,” “This Ain’t a Love Song,” “(You Want To) Make a Memory,” “Blood on Blood” and includes two additional new songs in “This is Love This is Life” and “The More Things Change.”

I was disappointed that none of the tracks from Bounce like “Misunderstood” or “All About Lovin’ You” made the cut. I wonder whether Bon Jovi encountered any difficulties in deciding which songs should be included on their Bon Jovi Greatest Hits and Bon Jovi Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection album?

Bon Jovi enticed individuals to pre-order either version on their web site and they rewarded those individuals by offering an instant download of the unreleased track “This is Our House.”

Honestly, I believe a majority of the individuals probably ordered, like me, the Bon Jovi Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection. We all really enjoy Bon Jovi’s older material, but we are salivating for the new material.

“What Do You Got?” is the fastest growing Hot AC single in Bon Jovi history! The video, which is not only entertaining and a fan favorite, filmed in stunning stereoscopic 3-D by director Wayne Isham. One of my favorite Bon Jovi songs ever!

“This is Our House” is an energetic rock anthem that would fire-up any professional or non-professional sports arena! You can hear it now, “This is our time. This is our night. This is our house. Ain’t nobody nowhere gonna knock it down.” I wouldn’t be surprised if I heard snippets of these lyrics as an introductory song to an NFL, NHL and NBA regular or playoff season game.

“No Apologies” opens with the chorus, eases into a piano melody and finally, to a guitar solo by Richie Sambora.

“This is Love This is Life” embraces more of a rock drum dance beat.

“The More Things Change” is my least favorite out of the four new songs released by Bon Jovi. However, the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me.

Bon Jovi Greatest Hits and Bon Jovi Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection will someday surpass Cross Road as the greatest hits compilation ever released by Bon Jovi. I can only imagine how difficult that it may have been to abandon other hit songs while including others. One only hopes that a band that has rocked the universe for over twenty-five years, including achieving at least a Gold Certification by the RIAA on every album, will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2011. If Bon Jovi is denied, you might have to consider a conspiracy theory. Below is the song list for Bon Jovi Greatest Hits and Bon Jovi Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection, that will be released on Tuesday, November 9th.
