There is some mythological force that magnetizes an individual to Hinder’s music.
Hinder has earned their reputation as being one of the hardest working and craziest rock bands in this modern day of rock ‘n’ roll.
Hinder’s chaotic party lifestyle may be offensive to some or provide an ultimatum of a break-up if that individual toured with Hinder, but behind the wild R&R party lifestyle, they’re extremely talented musicians.
All American Nightmare will most likely achieve Gold status because the album not only continues to embark on the failed relationship theme and getting high references, but the album also embarks on a more mature content, including a little Hinder soul searching and several heavier sounding Hinder tracks.
A few of the songs that contain mature content are “What Ya Gonna Do,” “The Life” and “Striptease.” Some of Hinder’s heaviest tracks to date are “Waking Up the Devil” and “2 Sides of Me.”
Everyone can relate to Austin’s frustration in “Striptease” when he sings “You ain’t no Madonna. No you ain’t no pop queen. You’re just a pre-Madonna sucking off the paparazzi.” Cody remarked this song is inspired by “All the little pop chicks that really don’t have any talent and all of the reality TV stars that are famous for nothing.” For some strange reason, individuals continue to be sold into this notion that you really don’t have to either work hard or be talented to achieve your dream. That is just BS!
Hinder is a perfect example because they toured for five straight years in support of their Triple Platinum album Extreme Behavior and Gold album Take it to the Limit. When the endless touring concluded, Hinder enjoyed an eight month sabbatical that enables them to release another splendid album in All American Nightmare. The album will be dropped in stores on December 7th.
Hinder conducted a little soul searching with the song “What Ya Gonna Do.” Although everyone wants an answer to what it means to Hinder, it is an open ended question that will not be answered soon.
Hinder managed their lyrical creativity by interspersing their musical influences on songs like “Hey Ho” and “Put that Record On.” My favorite lyrical line is “You told me you hated my GN’R shirt. I should’ve know then, this was never gonna work.” (Lyrics from “Hey Ho”). The song also includes positive references to Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, while criticizing Kanye, rap and hip-hop.
Several other lyrical shout-outs come from “Put that Record On.” “By the time that The Stones came on. I can feel right at home sweet home. Maybe we were knockin’ on Heaven’s door. Blame it on back in black.”
Currently “All American Nightmare” is the first single from the album, but I believe Hinder should release either “The Life” or “Everybody’s Wrong” as their next single because those are killer ballads! “The Life” relates to every neurotic or serene rock fan that is best described by Austin Winkler’s comment, “No matter to what kind of life you lead or you set out for, life is never, ever what it seems even when you achieve your goals.”
Years from now, Hinder may look back and say that writing and recording All American Nightmare was a turning point in their musical careers. In a way, it has already started because Cody Hanson co-produced All American Nightmare. Although Hinder’s songwriting is becoming more mature, I hope they continue with what made them successful and that is writing ballads about relationships. Another song worth mentioning from the album is “Red Tail Lights.” All American Nightmare will fascinate the universe when the album is released on December 7th.
