As politicians continue to bicker across political lines and are stubborn to change their rhetorical tune, Kid Rock has accomplished just the opposite.
The first time that I listened to “Cowboy,” I really enjoyed Kid Rock’s rapture instilled with rock music. Kid Rock is the only artist that could accomplish mixing together rap and rock genres and be successful.
However, there’s more behind Kid Rock and his rockin’ rap tunes. If you listened close enough to Rock’s earlier music, and watched his appearances on CMT, you would get a clue on what type of music that Kid Rock would eventually release from his latest album Born Free. These clues would lean over like the Tower of Pisa.
“Only God Knows Why,” “Picture” and I would even argue “Lonely Road of Faith,” (before Kid Rock’s rap revival mid-way through the song) provided a platform in which Born Free would be transformed into a country pop sound.
Born Free arrived in stores today and the album hits home with a lot of struggling Americans. The album is best summed up by a statement Kid Rock made regarding Born Free: “Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times.”
The economic times are indeed chaotic and unsettling, but the awesome thing about Born Free is that it’s available digitally, for a limited time only, on Amazon for $3.99. That is cheaper than a Grande Caramel Frappuccino® at Starbucks and you still have change remaining.
Born Free has Kid Rock performing featured duets with Martina McBride & T.I. on “Care,” “Collide” with Sheryl Crow & Bob Seger on piano, and finally Zac Brown on “Flyin’ High.” If you took every album duet that Kid Rock has performed and you added those individuals to his 2011 Born Free Tour, you would almost have a chamber orchestra.
Born Free will definitely be another hit album for Kid Rock. Although the album may never surpass the popularity of Devil Without a Cause, Born Free might someday surpass Rock N Roll Jesus, but only time will tell. “Born Free,” “God Bless Saturday,” “Rock On” and “Times Like These” are noteworthy songs from Born Free.
