ALWAYS ACOUSTIC® ALBUM REVIEW

Thursday, November 4, 2010
By Aaron Keker

The sickest song on Live it Up is the acoustic ballad “A Song About Love.”

“Putting out an album on a major label is truly a dream come true,” remarked American Idol Season 9 Winner Lee DeWyze.

That dream will finally reach fruition for Lee DeWyze when Live it Up is released on November 16th via 19 Recordings/RCA Records.

The once bashful singer has opened his heart by gliding along the genre scale as he tells eleven stories about heartbreak and romance.

“Brooklyn Bridge” is a jazzy piano melody that is accompanied by Lee’s edgier rock vocals.

“Me and My Jealousy” starts as a piano and drum rhythmic beat and progresses into a rock ballad chorus, then eases back into the rhythmic beat and ends melodically with the strings.

“Sweet Serendipity” has been heard by the masses since its digital release on October 15, 2010. Although that song is very effervescent, the sickest song on Live it Up is the acoustic ballad “A Song About Love.” Lee DeWyze sings this song with such compassion and heartbreak as he tells a story about love.

Although “Beautiful Like You” was the only song not co-written by Lee DeWyze, I thought he did a good job vocally singing this song.

If you are looking for a David Cook or Daughtry type debut rock album, then you may be disappointed. Live it Up crosses over into several genres like pop, rock, folk and jazz and is not confined into strictly being a straight-up rock album. In fact, the cross-over appeal could potentially lure an even broader audience besides those American Idol admirers. Live it Up has my vote as the best debut album in 2010.

Lee DeWyze fans should consider pre-ordering the album either on CD or digitally on LeeDeWyzeOfficial.com because they will receive the bonus song “Only Dreaming.” Otherwise, you can pre-order the album on iTunes and you will receive the bonus song “Say it All Over Again.” “Say it All Over Again” will be unavailable when Live it Up is released on November 16th, so if you decide to pre-order the album on iTunes, you should do so now!
