ALWAYS ACOUSTIC® ALBUM REVIEW

Monday, October 25, 2010
By Aaron Keker

Stone Temple Pilots managed to take unique words like “Huckleberry Crumble” and “Hickory Dichotomy” and transform them into “hit songs.”

Five months ago on May 25th, Stone Temple Pilots released their sixth album entitled Stone Temple Pilots.

Stone Temple Pilots recorded and produced Stone Temple Pilots in Eric Kretz’s Bomb Shelter Studios, Robert DeLeo’s Homefry Studio and Scott Weiland’s Lavish Studios.

Rather than rushing and releasing a mediocre album to STP fans, STP worked at a leisurely pace.

What the album contains is a lot of Stone Temple Pilots’ influences. Dean DeLeo remarked that “[STP] bring[s] in musical elements including Brazilian, Jazz and Country and introduce it via a Rock format.” Scott Weiland describes “‘Maver’ [as being] very R&B.”

Stone Temple Pilots appear to enjoy recording and releasing a variety of songs with the word “man” in it. Previously released songs by Stone Temple Pilots have been “Crackerman” and “Silvergun Superman,” so why not add their latest release “Bagman” to the equation.

One must wonder whether Stone Temple Pilots are fans of the Food Network’s hit show Chopped? Instead of mixing unique ingredients and making a dish out of it, Stone Temple Pilots managed to take unique words like “Huckleberry Crumble” and “Hickory Dichotomy” and transform them into “hit songs.”

“Between the Lines” is the typical Stone Temple Pilots riff hooker that STP fans are accustomed to hearing. Whether you remember that first kiss or not, I guarantee that you’ve never had that “First Kiss on Mars.” The song is a very groovy ballad.

From the various Stone Temple Pilots’ influences to the unique song titles and groovy ballad, Stone Temple Pilots is a definite picker-upper for STP fans this 2010 holiday season. Best Buy, Target and iTunes offer a deluxe edition of the album that contains live versions of “Hickory Dichotomy” and “Between the Lines.” Below is the standard song list for Stone Temple Pilots.

Stone Temple Pilots:

1. “Between the Lines”
2. “Take a Load Off”
3. “Huckleberry Crumble”
4. “Hickory Dichotomy”
5. “Dare If You Dare”
6. “Cinnamon”
7. “Hazy Daze”
8. “Bagman”
9. “Peacoat”
10. “Fast As I Can”
11. “First Kiss on Mars”
12. “Maver”
