ALWAYS ACOUSTIC® ALBUM REVIEW

Tuesday, February 1, 2011
By Aaron Keker

As Aaron Lewis eloquently sings “Massachusetts,” it is if the listener is sitting on the porch with Aaron and his acoustic guitar while he tells a heartfelt story about the place he likes to call home.

It was rumored sometime in 2009 that Aaron Lewis would release his solo debut album. 2009 passed and the album was never released.

During Aaron Lewis’s solo acoustic tour on February 25, 2010, I got a little taste of “Country Boy” and “Massachusetts,” but the hunger turned to starvation as the album seemed to disappear.

The EP has finally resurfaced and the arrival of Town Line will be released on March 1, 2011 via Stroudavarious Records.

Town Line incorporates a country arrangement alongside Aaron Lewis’s acoustic guitar. Aaron Lewis’s childhood consisted of listening to country music and this fueled his passion to work with legendary country stars George Jones and Charlie Daniels on “Country Boy.”

Although “Country Boy” sold over 20,000 digital singles in its first week and debuted at #9 on the Billboard Country Digital Singles, I have a greater fondness of “The Story Never Ends,” “Vicious Circles” and “Massachusetts” from Town Line.

Aaron Lewis has never shied away from writing emotional music, but Town Line might be the most intimate and expressive album ever written by him. Here’s some emotional lyrics from “Massachusetts”: “In Massachusetts. Where my daughters and my wife they wait for me. All alone.” and “They keep getting older. Time keeps going by. To think about it makes your daddy want to cry.”

As Aaron Lewis eloquently sings “Massachusetts,” it is if the listener is sitting on the porch with Aaron and his acoustic guitar while he tells a heartfelt story about the place he likes to call home.

Town Line is definitely worth the investment and it will be a successful solo debut for Aaron Lewis. I guarantee that there will be “haters” because of the country arrangement of Town Line and Aaron Lewis’s response is “Sorry.” Aaron Lewis has accomplished a lot between Staind and his solo acoustic tours that Aaron doesn’t really have to justify his change in musical direction. If Aaron loses a few rock fans along the way while developing a larger country fan base, so be it! Those “haters” will return when Staind releases their next album.

Town Line:

1. “The Story Never Ends”
2. “Vicious Circles”
3. “Country Boy”
4. “Tangled Up in You”
5. “Massachusetts”
6. “Country Boy” (Radio Edit)
7. “Country Boy” (Acoustic)
