ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW
Wednesday, August 8, 2007
By Aaron Keker

Just who is Biffy Clyro? The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Simon Neil, bassist James Johnston and drummer Ben Johnston.

Their U.S. debut album Puzzle will be released on September 18, 2007 on Roadrunner Records.

Although this is their U.S. debut album, Biffy Clyro has been around for at least five years. They have released three additional albums overseas besides the release of Puzzle on June 4, 2007.

In fact, if you are interested in their earlier albums Blackened Sky and The Vertigo of Bliss, they are available for purchase on iTunes.

Blackened Sky and The Vertigo of Bliss are not only available on iTunes, but also the video and single of Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies from the Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies (Edit) – EP. If you are unsure about purchasing the video because you are unfamiliar with the song, visit www.youtube.com and search for Biffy Clyro.

The videos that are viewable from their album Puzzle on You Tube are Folding Stars, Saturday Superhouse, Semi-Mental 4/15ths and Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies. If after you reviewed their videos and you become interested in their music, I encourage you to buy their hit single Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies. If you own a video iPod then you should invest in the video. Maybe you can show your friends the video and they can become Biffy Clyro fans too?

I have listened to their U.S. debut album Puzzle in its entirety and I have to say I really enjoyed it. When you first review the album you might be a little puzzled that about twenty-five percent of their songs on the album are in the 15ths. Songs like As Dust Dances 2/15ths, Semi-Mental 4/15ths and 9/15ths. Do not be alarmed maybe the guys like 15ths or maybe there is some hidden meaning to the 15ths?

The album Puzzle is anchored by their fast paced hit Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies to the melodramatic song Machines. The songs in between like Saturday Superhouse, The Conversation Is…, Now I’m Everyone, Love Has A Diameter and Folding Stars make the anchor stay afloat and never sink. I predict that these songs will be audience favorites, however I will not discuss which ones I believe will be bigger hits.

If you are looking to hear something different whether it is the fast-paced hit like Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies to the melodramatic song Machines then this album is for you.

Also, another good song not on the album Puzzle is Hope For An Angel on the single album 57-EP. Their transition in Hope For An Angel is similar to Metallica in the sense they start the song off melodramatic and then transition the song into a fast-paced electrified song. I believe the song would have sounded even better if they would have played the entire song melodramatically.

If you want to find out more information on Biffy Clyro visit their web page at www.biffyclyro.com or their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/biffyclyro.

Finally, who is Biffy Clyro? I have a feeling we all are going to find out soon. Please make sure you purchase their U.S. debut album Puzzle when it is released on September 18, 2007.
