Although listening to songs like “The Letter,” “Tears of Yesterday,” “I Don’t Think I Love You” and “Sick of Hanging On” are agonizing, at the moment, to my heart, I can really relate to every one of these songs from For(n)ever.
It seems like a distant memory when I almost told her “You’re the One” for me. Luckily, I never said anything because she started acting very strange and I could tell that things were falling apart.
About a month ago, my iPod did a shuffle and I heard Doug sing the lyrics, “It’s too late to try and work it out, there’s no way to turn this thing around,” and I suddenly felt an instant connection to the song “The Letter.”
A week later, she and I called it quits and I am still, at the moment, living by this lyrical line from “Tears of Yesterday.” The line goes like this “I try so hard but I can’t seem to let go.”
With all of this chaos going on in my life, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to watch a live performance by Hoobastank back on February 21st at The Venue in Hammond, Indiana. I really enjoyed Hoobastank’s performance, especially when Doug Robb performed on acoustic guitar “The Letter” and “So Close, So Far.”
Although I really enjoyed those songs semi-acoustically, I would like to quote a word excerpt from Doug when he discussed Hoobastank’s long recording process for For(n)ever. I “reeeeeeeeally” hope that Hoobastank will consider releasing these songs acoustically.
Another song that Hoobastank performed live from For(n)ever was the fast-paced guitar tempo “My Turn.” In fact, you may have even viewed the music video on Hoobastank’s web site that allows the viewer to control the on-screen action.
If you’re unfamiliar with the history of the song, it is inspired by a poem written by Doug’s older brother and it is about every man or woman who is just looking to get the rewards they deserve. I am still wondering when it will be “My Turn” in love so maybe I can serenade that special lady with the song “You’re the One.”
I know what some individuals are going to say, “Aaron, why are you complaining so much about your heartbreak.” My response is “We listen to music for various reasons, but one of the main reasons we choose different songs over others is because we feel some connection to those songs.”
The moment that I heard songs like “The Letter,” “Tears of Yesterday,” “I Don’t Think I Love You,” “Sick of Hanging On,” “So Close, So Far,” “My Turn” and “You’re the One,” I felt an instant connection to them because I was living them. For(n)ever provides the listener with both the positive and negative side of relationships and this is the main reason why I think people can relate and will enjoy the album.
