ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW

Wednesay, July 15, 2008
By Aaron Keker

Jet Black Stare released their debut album In This Life on July 15, 2008 on Island Records

I know what some of you are thinking, I have never heard of Jet Black Stare. If you watched WWE Summerslam then you may have heard “Ready to Roll” or you may have seen them on tour with 3 Doors Down, Staind and Hinder this summer.

Jet Black Stare is led by frontman Rod Black from Canada just like other rock predecessors Geddy Lee from Rush and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback.

If you are unfamiliar with Jet Black Stare, visit their web site at www.jetblackstare.com or their MySpace page and listen to their music. Some of the biggest hits played on www.myspace.com/jetblackstareband are “Ready to Roll,” “I’m Breathing’” and “In This Life.”

I would not be surprised if I pulled up to another automobile on the highway and heard someone singing, “I don’t want to run away. I don’t want to sacrifice. When you’re here with me.” In fact, when I watched Jet Black Stare’s performance back on July 13th in Tinley Park, they received a loud ovation from about 3,000 screaming individuals as “In This Life” came to a roaring conclusion.

Have you ever been in a relationship where it looks like it is going to lead to a breakup? You can probably relate to the semi-melodic ballad “Next to Me.” Especially, when Rod sings, “ I know you’re thinkin its time to let me go… Don’t say we’re running out of time… Don’t say you’re givin up on me.”

Some of my other favorite songs on In This Life are “I’m Breathing,” “Every Moment,” “It’s Over,” “Rearview Mirror,” “Fly” and “I Won’t Let Go.” Hopefully, they will release some of my favorite songs acoustically on iTunes or any store that sells their music. Maybe Jet Black Stare can release them on a deluxe version of In This Life or several CD singles.

This summer’s rock album releases have not really motivated me in trying to create different play lists, depending on my mood, on my iPod. Obviously, there are exceptions and one of them is In This Life. I find myself constantly adding Jet Black Stare’s music to my rockin’ sockin’ play lists as well as other bands that Always Acoustic™ enjoys covering.

So, if you are not motivated with the rock albums this summer and are ready to roll with a new band, I would recommend purchasing In This Life at iTunes or any store that sells their music. Besides several of my favorites songs that I hope Jet Black Stare drops down acoustically, I am hoping that they also release the videos on iTunes. I believe people would pay $1.99 to download videos like “Next to Me,” “I Won’t Let Go,” Every Moment,” “I’m Breathing,” “In This Life” “Fly” and “Ready to Roll.”

Finally, I am looking forward to providing future coverage of Jet Black Stare next time they perform in Chicago. Therefore, if you are ready to roll on the In This Life bandwagon, make sure you purchase the album at iTunes or any store that sells their music. Jet Black Stare just might be the best new rock group out now. If they had a Grammy category for Best New Rock Group, who knows they may be the winner?
