ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW

Friday, September 26, 2008
By Aaron Keker

Metallica continues to strive for excellence as they released their ninth studio album Death Magnetic on September 12, 2008 on Warner Bros. Records.

Metallica tossed several digital teasers in the last several months beginning with the releases of “The Day That Never Comes,” “Cyanide,” “The Judas Kiss” and “My Apocalypse.”

Since the release of Death Magnetic, the digital singles of “Cyanide,” “The Judas Kiss” and “My Apocalypse” appear to have been removed from iTunes.

If that was not enough Metallica for you in early September, the music video of “The Day That Never Comes” was released on the bands’ web site.

Not only that, but Metallica had 175 stations across the U.S. and Canada sign up for an exclusive FMQB broadcast of “The World Premiere of Death Magnetic.”

The moment you start listening to Death Magnetic, you can feel its magnetic force as you whip your head around while you perform the air riveting guitar sound of Kirk and James or the air drumstick smashing of Lars.

Some of my favorite head whipping and air guitar songs are “That Was Just Your Life,” “Broken, Beat & Scarred,” “The Day That Never Comes,” “All Nightmare Long,” “The Unforgiven III” and “My Apocalypse.”

Within three days after the release of Death Magnetic it had already sold nearly 490,000 copies on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and debuted at #1.

In fact, Metallica are one of the few bands that have even coveted the prestigious diamond award for their album Metallica.

My question is whether Metallica gets better with age or have they always been this good?

Only the passing of time will dictate how high on the platinum scale Death Magnetic will achieve. Could it reach the coveted diamond award status again like Metallica? Who knows?

These questions may be answered sooner than later as the head whipping, air guitar and air drumstick smashing enthusiasts continue to purchase Death Magnetic at a record pace.

Death Magnetic:

1.    “That Was Just Your Life”
2.    “The End of the Line”
3.    “Broken, Beat & Scarred”
4.    “The Day That Never Comes”
5.    “All Nightmare Long”
6.    “Cyanide”
7.    “The Unforgiven III”
8.    “The Judas Kiss”
9.    “Suicide & Redemption”
10.    “My Apocalypse”
