ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

By Aaron Keker

Moving Units will be releasing their album titled Hexes for Exes on October 9, 2007 on Metropolis Records.

The band consists of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Blake Miller, lead guitarist Victor Velazquez, bassist Johan Boegli and drummer Chris Hathwell.

I reviewed their press release on how they expanded their sound to include synthesizers. My first conclusion after reading their press release was they must sound similar to The Bravery. So, I had to investigate further into this conclusion?

I listened to their album in its entirety and I have to say that my conclusion was correct. The Moving Units sound is similar to The Bravery in the way they blend their synthesizers with the rest of their instruments without missing a beat.

Just listen to Paper Hearts from the album Hexes For Exes. Now listen to Time Won’t Let Me Go from The Bravery and you will notice the beginning of each songs are similar in sound.

If you enjoy Moving Units music you will definitely enjoy their album Hexes For Exes. The entire album starts at one extreme with up-beat tempos on Dark Walls to a more subdued tempo in Hearts Departed.
Some of my favorite songs on the album Hexes For Exes are Hearts Departed, Wrong Again, Dark Walls, The Kids From Orange County and Paper Hearts.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Moving Units do not panic! Visit their website at www.movingunits.net. Again do not panic if it redirects you to their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/movingunits. Once you are redirected take a listen to the songs posted on their page.

Finally, if you are looking for a similar sound to The Bravery or up-beat tempos or maybe even a more subdued acoustic sound then this album is something you should consider purchasing. If you are still not sold, who knows you may be in a club dancing and you may be listening to a dance style tempo of Wrong Again and it might just pique your curiosity to purchase their album?

I would not be surprised if shortly after the album is released that several of their songs are not turned into dance style tempos. Remember that their album Hexes For Exes will be released on October 9, 2007 in both album and digital format. Below is the song list from their album Hexes For Exes.
