The horrific traffic accident that RED had endured back in late 2007 was astonishing that there were no fatalities.
RED could have opted to suspend their tour, and who could have blamed them, but they continued touring.
RED has toured by either headlining themselves or by supporting bands like Seether at numerous locations in Chicago like the Subterranean, Reggie’s Rock Club, House of Blues and the Vic Theatre.
RED’s relentless touring is why they are considered one of the hardest working bands in the last several years.
Now it has been over a year, since the near tragic accident and it is not surprising that RED has resurrected themselves by releasing their latest melodies on Innocence & Instinct.
The entire album is a roller coaster ride with sharp classical and rock turns that has you hanging on for the ride and enjoying all the twists and turns.
“Death of Me” commences with the melodic, hypnotic strings then crescendos into an angst filled tirade and finally back into a state of serenity.
Lately, bands like RED and Seether have transformed cover pop singles into their own rock ‘n’ rock interpretations. RED managed to transform “Ordinary World,” by Duran Duran, into a dynamic classical/modern rock appeal. “Ordinary World” is definitely one of my favorites from Innocence & Instinct.
Additional favorites are “Fight Inside,” “Mystery of You,” “Start Again,” “Never Be the Same,” “Confession,” “Forever” and “Take it All Way.” Innocence & Instinct Deluxe Edition on iTunes contains bonus tracks of "Intro (Canto III),” “Take it All Away,” “Overtake You,” “Forever” and “Nothing and Everything.”
“Nothing and Everything” is lyrically the same song as “Fight Inside” but it has more of a melodic, classical keyboard presence.
I wished RED had released an acoustic track similar to “Pieces.” Maybe they can release one of their next singles dropped down acoustically, like they did with “Breathe into Me.”
If you enjoy videos, like me, the video for “Death of Me” is very entertaining. See if you can spot one of RED’s literary references in the video; I noticed it.
Finally, sometimes a negative circumstance could shine a light into inspirational compositions and that is exactly what occurred with Innocence & Instinct. RED is just one of those bands that I constantly enjoy listening to and Innocence & Instinct is definitely a must have for any RED enthusiast. Sure some songs have some angst in them, but by the end of the song, they magnetize you into a state of serenity. Below is the album song list for Innocence & Instinct.
