The Vancouver quintuplet that soared into the hearts and minds of Canadians will soon achieve the same notoriety in the U.S.
Life, Love & Lies by State of Shock will be released on December 23, 2008 on Universal Republic Records.
Just enough time to either stuff that U.S. debut album as a stocking stuffer or gift-wrap it for under the tree.
State of Shock consists of vocalist Cameron Melnyk, guitarist Jesse Wainwright, guitarist Simon Clow, bassist Alison Toews and drummer Johnny Philippon.
I was first exposed to State of Shock when they opened the chaotic evening for Staind at The Venue in Hammond, Indiana. After listening and enjoying their live performance, I could not wait to listen to Life, Love & Lies.
State of Shock, with their ear captivating lyrical songs, might find themselves among one of Vancouver’s best new artists in the U.S.
“Money Honey” immediately captivates the listener with the chorus “If I had more money honey. Would you love me, love me, love me. If I wasn’t just somebody like me, like me.” In fact, “Money Honey” was certified platinum in Canada and was also awarded the Canadian 2008 ‘Indie’ Award for Favorite Single of the Year.
Although “Money Honey” establishes a state of captivating the listener, the remaining songs quickly shock the listener into intoxicating, heartbreaking ballads.
Like all modern rock musicians, State of Shock has managed to incorporate the modern rock appeal with a classical touch on “Best I Ever Had.” Not only does the song fit perfectly with the orchestral strings, I also believe it has U.S. platinum single capabilities.
The song “Different Day” has such a melodic overtone that begins with the acoustic guitar and then fluctuates between various harmonious acoustic and orchestral intervals.
Other powerful heartbreaking ballads that I enjoy are “Hearts That Bleed,” “Too Pretty,” “Honeymoon’s Over,” “Pieces of You” and “When Did Love Leave” but they do not conclude there.
In fact, the entire album of Life, Love & Lies contains heartbreaking lyrics, which everyone can relate to, and probably is one of the reasons why Canadians have embraced the album and the U.S. will shortly.
Finally, if you are currently broken-hearted or your heart has been previously broken, then you probably can relate to the heartbreaking theme in Life, Love & Lies. The album will be available in the U.S. on December 23, 2008. There is a market for music video enthusiasts and I really hope that State of Shock will release videos of “Hearts That Bleed,” “Best I Ever Had” and “Money Honey” on iTunes U.S. Below is the album song list for Life, Love & Lies.
