ALWAYS ACOUSTIC™ ALBUM REVIEW

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

By Aaron Keker

The Deadly Syndrome will be releasing their debut album The Ortolan on September 11, 2007 on Dim Mak Records.

The band consists of vocalist and bassist Chris Richards, guitarist Will Etling, keyboardist Mike Hughes and drummer Jesse Hoy.

Their album begins with the xylophone playing on Eucalyptus to the fast paced synthesizers on The Ortolan.

I enjoyed listening to The Deadly Syndrome’s debut album The Ortolan, however I would have enjoyed their entire folk album better if it were stripped down acoustically. Just like Harry Chapin used to perform his music acoustically.

Even though I would have preferred a lower tempo album, I did enjoy the fast paced instrumental tempo of The Ortolan from their debut album The Ortolan. I would not be surprised if it is already playing in dance clubs around the country. My other favorite songs on the album are This Old Home and The Ship That Shot Its Self.

Finally, if you are looking for a higher tempo folk album unlike Harry Chapin’s softer tempo, then this album should be of interest. Those of you who are unfamiliar with The Deadly Syndrome visit their website at www.thedeadlysyndrome.com or their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/thedeadlysyndrome. Below is the song list from The Deadly Syndrome’s debut album.

  1. Eucalyptus
  2. Winter In You
